His Majesty Visits the Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library

It is said that history is a map of the past drawn from a present point of view to be useful to the modern traveler. His Majesty Ògíamẹ̀ Atuwatse III, being a historian himself and a lover of places that preserve memory, naturally delights in visiting museums and art galleries wherever he travels.

On his recent trip to Abeokuta, His Majesty specifically requested a guided tour of the Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library—a living archive of Nigeria’s contemporary journey, seen through the life of His Excellency Chief Olusegun Obasanjo GCFR.

From the moment one steps through the library's entrance, a narrative unfolds—chronicling the journey of a man who has profoundly impacted Nigeria. From Obasanjo’s early days as a brilliant student, his career in the Nigerian Armed Forces, to his leadership roles and prolific writings—each stage is presented with care.

Particularly remarkable is the array of publications penned by the former President: from his reflections during the civil war, to books written while in prison, and his more recent trilogy chronicling his democratic leadership and personal growth.

Unlike traditional African museums that often dwell on colonialism or ancient ancestry, the Obasanjo Library tells a forward-looking story—who we were, who we are, and what we must become. It inspires the visitor to not only dream but to live out those dreams in service to God, country, and self.

His Majesty was accompanied by prominent chiefs of the Warri Kingdom, all of whom expressed admiration for both the man behind the legacy and the thoughtful preservation of his life's work.
