Christmas Carols with the British High Commissioner

Christmas Carols with the British High Commissioner

In the spirit of the Yuletide, His Majesty Ògíamẹ̀ Atuwatse III and Her Highness Olori Atuwatse III were last night treated to an evening of Christmas carol renditions hosted by Her Excellency Catriona Laing, the British High Commissioner to Nigeria.

The event was a beautiful reflection of the unity of humanity. People from all continents, all shades and colours, came together to share in the essence of Christmas.

Performing for the audience was the Commonwealth Ensemble, whose stentorian voices united in perfect harmony to usher in the festive spirit. Traditional carol hymns as well as local renditions from selected Nigerian tribes immersed the audience in joy, culminating in the resounding chorus of “The Great Alleluia.”

Prior to the performance, H.E. Catriona Laing delivered a moving speech reflecting on events in Britain during the year, especially the passing of Queen Elizabeth II and the ascension of King Charles III. She noted that "God Save the King" was formally sung for the first time by the Commonwealth Ensemble—marking a historical moment.

Also in attendance were HRM Bubaraye Dakolo, Chairman of the Bayelsa State Traditional Rulers Council, the Primate of the Anglican Church in Nigeria, members of the Diplomatic Corps, and many other distinguished guests.
